Our Story
Under the guidance of Dr. Attie Van Wyk, a group of dedicated medical professionals and affiliated experts initiated a programme to highlight the artistic and cultural achievements of doctors. The objectives were to promote enjoyment, foster creativity, and celebrate extracurricular pursuits—including music, art, gastronomy, prose, and poetry—while also raising funds for children in need.
In 2019, LMACS conducted its inaugural gala at Kavinga Lodge near Nelspruit, collaborating with Paediatric Care Africa to provide support for vulnerable children. Funds were generated through ticket sales and auctions featuring donated luxury holidays and artworks, resulting in R80,000 raised.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2023 gala returned to live celebrations at Kavinga Venue with an attendance of 180 guests. This event achieved increased fundraising success, securing significant contributions from the pharmaceutical sector and raising R850,000. In 2024, a distinguished event held at the BMW Showroom welcomed 330 guests. Major donors included Sunpharma Pharmaceuticals and Busamed Lowveld Private Hospital. By then, LMACS had become an independent non-profit organisation, allowing for efficient management of its mission. Donations from spot prizes and auction items contributed to reaching a fundraising milestone of 2 million rand.
Looking back, another notable gala was held on 16 May 2026 at Whispering Thorns in White River, reaffirming our dedication to integrating art, culture and philanthropy to positively impact the lives of children.

The People Behind LMACS
Meet the Team
Dr Attie Van Wyk
Chairman
Dr Attie, a general practitioner in Nelspruit, is an experienced expert in patient care and diabetic medicine, known for his outstanding fundraising and organisational skills.
Dr Linda Joubert
Board member
She is an anaesthetist engaged in part-time private practice in Nelspruit and holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from UNISA. She is responsible for the curation and production of visual artworks at various functions.
Dr Sias Willemse
Board Member
A Nelspruit-based anaesthetist who also brews beer, enjoys wine, and writes and cooks.
Reon Van Aardt
Committee Member
He is a dietitian and a skilled musician, proficient in piano, saxophone, clarinet, and vocals. As concert master for the gala evening, he hosts rehearsals at home leading up to the event.
Dr Caro De Wit
Committee member
She is a psychiatrist with a private practice in Nelspruit and also performs professionally as a soprano singer. As a committee member, she assists with everything from music to supporting arts and crafts activities needed for events.
Schizelle Theron
Committee member
She is a physiotherapist based in Nelspruit. On the committee, she takes on multiple roles: acting as secretary during meetings, managing finances, creating art, and playing music with skill.
Dr Mario Rudolph
Committee member
An ear, nose, and throat surgeon based in Nelspruit, he demonstrates a diverse range of interests outside his medical practice. In addition to his professional expertise, he pursues music, beer brewing, and sports, and frequently serves as master of ceremonies at organizational events.
Dr Carine Smit
Committee member
A dedicated and compassionate paediatrician based in Nelspruit. Beyond her medical practice, she brings her musical talents, ranging from piano, guitar, and flute to the LMACS gala each year.
Dr Lerato Motjale
Committee member
Dr Lerato Motjale is a paediatrician in private practice at Nelspruit Medi Clinic as well as in public service at Rob Ferreira Hospital. Apart from her leadership roles in provincial as well as private health organisations , she is also an entrepreneur . One of her many ventures includes the Percolatte coffee bar.
Dr Lerato Khoele
Committee member
An obstetrician and gynaecologist based in Nelspruit, she enjoys a variety of sports except for golf. She keeps fit by playing padel and has a fondness for off-the-grid camping.
